How to Wear Jeans to the Office

Casual Fridays were started in Hawaii in the 60s as Aloha Fridays. It was started as a way to sell floral print shirts. It was adopted on the mainland as Casual Fridays in the 90s by Levi Strauss & Co to promote their Dockers brand. Most of us look forward to the day we can be a little more casual in the office and throw on a nice pair of jeans.

The office I work in has a business casual dress code. We normally don’t have casual Fridays but for a few weeks during the summer we get to wear them in return for giving to charity. If your office has a casual Friday and you want to wear jeans, there’s a way to do it and still look professional.

Here are a few ways you can wear jeans to the office and still look professional.

Wear Dark Wash Jeans

If you are going to wear jeans to the office, I would opt for the darker wash denim. This will give you a more polished look than a pair faded denim would. You can also try the classic colored jeans like white or black.

Throw on a Blazer

A nice structured blazer can add a more professional flare to your jeans. You can throw on a nice white tee under your blazer with your dark wash jeans. This will give you a clean, professional look.

Try Denim Trousers

If your office does not have Casual Fridays, you can always give a nice pair of denim trousers. They can give you the jeans look but are dressy enough to fit in the business casual dress code.

Leave the Skinnies at the House

Look we all love our skinny jeans, but the office is not the place for them. I wouldn’t wear them even on casual Friday. To me they are a little too close to leggings and you guys know how I feel about leggings in the office.

Opt for Flares

I love a pair of flared jeans. Flared, dark washed jeans are a great way to give you that polished, professional look.

Being casual doesn’t mean come to work looking thrown away. There are ways to wear your jeans and still look professional. Get a free copy of the Style Guide to help you step up your style and plan out your daily wardrobe.
